McNabb believes Vick could help other teams | Philadelphia Daily News | 02/05/2010

McNabb reiterated that he expects to remain with the Eagles this year.
Levy referred to McNabb’s 11-year tenure in asking what fans could expect.
"They’ll see me again for 12, and hopefully a lot more," McNabb said. "It’s an exciting time, I’m looking forward to it, you know I don’t want to be anywhere else but in Philadelphia."
McNabb’s Vick remarks were notable in light of a report from onetime Eagles executive Michael Lombardi, now of the National Football Post, who said he has been told the team will keep Vick. Vick has confirmed that he has asked to be traded. The team must pick up a $1.5 million option by March 5 to retain his rights. Other teams seem to expect Vick to be available in a trade.
McNabb, who appeared on "SportsCenter," talked at length with Levy and former quarterback Steve Young about the Super Bowl matchup.
McNabb said that if Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney is out or ineffective with an ankle problem, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees can get more receivers into patterns.
"Your backs don’t have to check, your tight ends don’t have to check, they can get out in the route, which puts more pressure on your safeties and your linebackers, and they have to cover . . . The [Colts'] linebackers aren’t great coverage guys. So now you’re going to put them against a Reggie Bush, against a [Mike] Bell, against a Pierre Thomas, against a Jeremy Shockey, who probably is pretty healthy right now."
McNabb picked the Colts and clearly felt the Saints’ defense will be overmatched against Peyton Manning.
He said the Saints "have given up a lot of big plays all year, and I don’t think it’s going to be any different."
McNabb said Manning’s experience, having been to the Super Bowl 3 years ago when the Colts won it, will be "a major factor."
He noted that 17 of the cheap flights from Tamworth to Launceston Saints’ 35 sacks have come through blitzing, …continue reading

Columnist Thinks Trading Nnamdi Asomugha is a Good Idea

Source: HoopsWorld (Original Article)

Nnamdi Asomugha: The 2nd best cornerback in the league said at the Pro Bowl this weekend he’d love to play alongside Darrelle Revis. And now, Cam Inman of the Oakland Tribune thinks that trading Asomugha might be the right move. “Do the deal, as long as Al Davis nabs a franchise-saving package of draft picks and players in return. Asomugha’s value is sky high … He is a magnificent bargaining chip who could generate a blockbuster trade, along the standard set by Herschel Walker going from the Dallas Cowboys to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989.” Can’t imagine the Raiders contemplating this, but the Jets should do it in a heartbeat, assuming the flights from Mount Isa to Melbourne (Tullamarine) asking price doesn’t involve Sanchez, Greene, or Harris. CPX Interactive Announces Formation of Board of Advisors

Global online ad network, CPX Interactive, has announced the creation of a formalized Advisory Board and the board’s first two members; Andrew B. Rosengard and Robert F. Hussey.

The move comes amid a number of other moves the online ad network has made, from personnel acquisition to the development of its own proprietary ad management platform (CPX adROIt™), that are all focused on the continuing goal of strengthening the company’s position as a top tier player in the online advertising space.

The ad network is bringing together executives with backgrounds spanning the spectrum of media-related industries, with the goal of leveraging their collective insights and experiences. While we look forward to bringing on additional board members, we consider ourselves very lucky to have the caliber of executives that have already decided to come to the table. Both Bob and Andy are very distinguished in their careers and their insights have already been extremely valuable. Our team is stronger for having then around.”

Andrew Rosengard is currently the Principal at the consulting firm, Rosengard & Associates, Inc. Are the Orlando Magic taking too many 3-pointers?

Are the Orlando Magic taking too many 3-pointers?

It’s a perfectly fair question. No team relies on 3s more than the Magic, who have shot a league-high 1,295 treys so far this season. Through Tuesday’s games, only two other clubs, the New York Knicks and the Phoenix Suns, have shot more than 1,000 shots from beyond the arc.

An article published today on FanHouse suggests that Dwight Howard is upset by all the 3s his teammates are taking. According to the piece, Howard’s “patience has worn thin.”

In my opinion, that Internet piece makes a leap.

It’s nothing new for Howard to want the ball more. Remember how Howard said after Game 5 of last postseason’s series against Boston that he needed more shots?

On Thanksgiving day, Howard and coach Stan Van Gundy spoke about ways to get Howard more shots.

I attended the press availability today from which many of Howard’s quotes are based.

To make sure fans are clear on what was said, here is the entirety of the exchange in which Howard was asked about the team’s 3-pointers:

Question: “Dwight, Stan was saying that he thought that some of the shot selection, the 3s — not so much too many 3s, but guys weren’t looking inside first before they were taking 3s. Do you agree with that or is that something you have to remind your team to get the ball into you?”

Howard: “You said it.” [Howard chuckles]

Question: “Do you have to remind some of your guys that that needs to be done? You’re the leader.”

Howard: “I do remind them. But sometimes in the game a lot of guys see stuff and they want to take advantage of it. I think for us as a team we’ve got to understand when we have a lead — a comfortable lead — we have to come down, slow the ball down and get good shots. Even if we miss a cheap flights from Kalgoorlie to Adelaide couple shots here and there, we’ve just …continue reading

Rudy Gay: Grizzlies coach refutes Gay trade rumors

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is adamant that Rudy Gay won’t be traded this season.
"Untrue. There’s no trade possibility for Rudy," he said. "Rudy is a Memphis Grizzly, and for as long as he wants to be, he will be." Matsui likes Japan series

Source: Salt Lake Tribune (Original Article)

World Series MVP Hideki Matsui likes the idea of games between the World Series and Japan Series champions even though he may be retired by the time such a matchup takes place.
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig told his Japanese counterpart earlier this month that he is open to games between the champions of both countries but no steps have been taken to set up such a series.
“If it ever happens, I would be happy and I’m sure the fans would enjoy it,” Matsui said Wednesday. “A lot of details would have to be worked out like where to play the games, and it’s possible I’ll be retired by the time they get it organized.”
Japan has won the World Baseball Classic twice but Matsui opted out of both tournaments, saying he wanted to prepare for the regular season.
Matsui signed a $6 million, one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels last month.

Dodgers, Ethier reach agreement
Outfielder Andre Ethier has agreed to a $15.25 million, two-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ethier gets a $500,000 signing bonus and salaries of $5.5 million this year and $9.25 million in 2011.
He batted .272 with 31 homers and 106 RBIs last season, helping the Dodgers reach the NL championship series for the second straight year.
Closer Jonathan Broxton is the Dodgers’ last remaining player in arbitration. Los Angeles was close to finalizing an $11 Advertisementmillion, two-year deal that would pay him $4 million this year and $7 million in 2011. The salary in the second season could escalate to $7.5 million.

Giants send pitcher to Blue Jays
The San Francisco Giants traded right-hander Merkin Valdez to the Toronto Blue Jays for cash.
The 28-year-old Valdez was designated for assignment last Thursday to clear roster room for newly signed cleanup hitter Aubrey Huff .
Valdez went 2-1 with a 5.66 ERA in 48 relief appearances last season. Valdez underwent reconstructive elbow surgery on Sept. 27, 2006, and returned cheap domstic flights from Sunshine Coast to Hobart briefly in 2008 before going on the …continue reading

NFL: Bears’ Adams dies at 26 | Philadelphia Inquirer | 01/18/2010

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer (Original Article)

Gaines Adams, 26, an all-American defensive end at Clemson whose career never blossomed in the NFL with Chicago and Tampa Bay, died yesterday in Greenwood, S.C., after going into cardiac arrest.
He died at Self Regional Hospital after going into cardiac arrest about an hour before at his family’s home, said Marcia Kelley-Clark, chief deputy coroner for Greenwood County.
An autopsy showed an enlarged heart, a condition that can often lead to a heart attack, Kelley-Clark added. She said relatives were unaware of any medical condition.
Toxicology tests are being run by the State Law Enforcement Division, though drug use is not suspected.
Adams, 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, spent three seasons in the NFL. He was selected fourth overall in the 2007 draft by Tampa Bay. He had not lived up to expectations that he would revive the Buccaneers’ once-feared pass rush, and - after a particularly quiet game in October against the Eagles - he was dealt to the Bears for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft. Adams had just 17 tackles and one sack in 15 games (10 with Chicago) this season.
Dvoracek arrested. Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek was arrested in Norman, Okla., on charges of public intoxication, assault and battery, and interference with official process.
Norman police records indicate the 26-year-old Dvoracek was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday at a restaurant near the University of Oklahoma.
Dvoracek played in 13 games in four seasons with the Bears.
Reed may quit. Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed said his chances of returning to the game after an injury-filled season were "50-50."
Reed, 31, missed four December games because of a variety of injuries, including problems with his neck, hip, and groin.
"I’ve been thinking about it, and it kind of hit me on the sidelines," he said Saturday after a 20-3 playoff loss to the Colts. cheap flight Brisbane to Whitsunday Coast "It’s going to be a long off-season. …continue reading

NBA At 2: Mavs, Sixers Trade Talk

Source: HoopsWorld (Original Article)

Let’s play connect the dots for a moment.

Last week we heard from a number of sources that the Philadelphia 76ers had offered the Houston Rockets a package of Samuel Dalembert and Andre Iguodala for the expiring contract of Tracy McGrady. The Rockets weren’t interested, partially because of the fact that Iguodala has a huge long-term contract that Houston didn’t want to commit themselves to.

Trading Iguodala and Dalembert amounts to a salary dump for the Sixers, who would stand to gain a $27 million reduction in player expense next summer if such a deal were to go down. They would then have roughly $16 million in cap space to spend on a top free agent next summer depending on where the cap falls, and with guys like Elton Brand, Thaddeus Young, Marreese Speights and a ton of young and improving talent in place, someone like Rudy Gay might give the Sixers serious consideration . . .certainly ahead of the hapless New York Knicks. Moving Iguodala and Dalembert as a package for expiring contracts make a great deal of sense for the Sixers, so why not continue to offer that deal around? In fact, why not make another call to Texas?

The Dallas Mavericks are a team in need. They need better production at the center position and they need a legitimate second star to play alongside Dirk Nowitzki. They also have an owner who cares more about winning than paying the luxury tax or committing to long-term deals. Frankly, Andre Iguodala is precisely the kind of player they need. He’d be the first star shooting guard on the team since Michael Finley left, and he would give them size and speed on the wing with Shawn Marion. The Mavericks also happen to have a pair of contracts to offer that could come off the books this summer, just as McGrady’s would have.

Erick Dampier has another year left on his contract, but in order for next season to kick in he has to meet some incentives. One of those incentives cheap flights from Hervey Bay to Darwin is that he must play 28 minutes …continue reading

Weekend Out: Nuggets courting kids with skills challenge

Source: Denver Post (Original Article)

Nuggets staffer Mark Randall stands with participants during last year’s skills challenge.
(Pro Action Foto Sports Photography)Kids from all over Colorado can showcase their court talent during the Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge, a series of recreational basketball competitions held throughout the state this month.
Dozens of recreation centers are participating including Longmont Recreation Center, which hosts the event today at 1 p.m. Registration is free and open to anyone who meets the age requirements. (Find details on Page 6D and at nba.com.)
The program began five years ago through the efforts of the Denver Nuggets youth and fan development office.
“We wanted to reach out to elementary schools and to teach basketball to kids who were not playing,” says Doug Fulton, youth and fan development coordinator for the team. “At first it was geared toward fun, not competition.”
The school-based basketball workshops were a hit. Since organized sports encourage a certain degree of rivalry, it was a natural transition to expand the program into a statewide challenge.
“We wanted something fun for kids of all ages and ability levels that would involve kids from all over the state,” Fulton says. The program, which expanded through the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, will draw about 3,000 children for the 2010 series.
“It’s a great experience, especially for a small-town kid,” Fulton says. “They get to travel, go on court at the Pepsi Center and receive that recognition.”
The competition features boys’ and girls’ divisions in four age groups — 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Kids are scored in three timed challenges: passing, dribbling and shooting. The highest scorers in each age division advance to the next round.
